PRAYING FOR RAIN IN THE TRADITION OF THE KAZAN TATARS

Abstract. The article presents the attempt to study the rite of trigging rain, characterized by multi-variant functioning among the Kazan Tatars. The rituals of praying for the rain as one of the forms of traditional rites are an object of the research. Having analyzed the structural and semantic peculiarities of the praying rituals (pilgrimage to sacred places, praying in the cemetery, collective sacrifice), the author comes to the conclusion that a different degree of correlation between the religious and pre-Muslim components underlies these rituals.
