MELODRAMATICS OF INCLUSIONS IN THE NOVEL BY F. M. DOSTOYEVSKY "THE ADOLESCENT"

Abstract. The article examines the role and functioning of melodramatic elements in the inclusions in the novel "The Adolescent ": in the story of a boy died through the fault of merchant Skotoboinikov and in the story of a girl who committed suicide. Melodramatics is considered as a non-temporal, cross-historical and cross-genre category. The basic feature of melodramatics is author’s intention to provoke reader’s unconditioned sympathy, evaluation of characters’ actions from the viewpoint of eternal ethical norms. In both stories melodramatics is considered at different text levels: story, set of personages and artistic devices. Both stories are presented in the form of a tale by the main personage Arkady; due to "innocent victim" motive they indirectly correlate with his own destiny. Consequently, just by putting down, experiencing and re-interpreting someone else’s experience, Arkady realizes his creative potential and finds his own way.
