Abstract. The article analyzes the works of A. Prokhanov, A. Babchenko, S. Tyutyunnik, and V. Makanin, dedicated to military events in Russia at the end of the ХХ century. The characters of A. Prokhanov, A. Babchenko, S. Tyutyunnik, and V. Makanin are depicted as strong, tough, sometimes cold-blooded, but often they are overcome by fear, are capable of sympathy and compassion and are ready to help a loved one in any situation. The hero of V. Makanin, unlike the others, at a certain point is in the "captivity" of the beauty of the enemy’s appearance.
