Abstract. Today’s system of teaching English grammar at the stage of explication is based mostly on the principles of logical and structural-semantic analysis, which does not always help the learner to understand the essence of the target grammar unit. The article propounds ways of improving English tenses instruction with the help of analyzing such an important cognitive factor of language and discourse as the figure of Observer.
