STRUCTURAL-SEMANTIC AND COGNITIVE PECULIARITIES OF METAPHORIZATION OF THE CONCEPT "SORROW" IN A. TENNYSON’S POETRY

Abstract. The article deals with the mechanisms of metaphorization of the abstract concept Sorrow in the context of structural and cognitive linguistics. In this connection, a complex analysis of compatibility of the concept is carried out on the basis of structural and semantic regularities of the construction of poetic nominal images and the functioning of basic cognitive metaphors in Alfred Tennyson’s elegiac poetry. The author substantiates the conclusion about the necessity of a different-level approach to the comprehension of figurative abstract concepts and the definition of their place in the poet’s conceptual sphere.
