Abstract. The paper compares the representation of man’s image in the phraseology of the Chinese and Russian languages. The image of the man in the Chinese culture is characterized by the predominance of negative features in relation to positive ones. The main negative feature of the Chinese man is lewdness. For the image of the man in the Russian culture the predominance of phraseological units describing the qualities of the man’s personality (courage, strength, mind, etc.) is typical, as well as fraternal relations between men. The main negative feature of the Russian man is drunkenness.
