Abstract. The article analyzes the language policy in Canada, its mechanisms and basic tools. The author discovers the meaning of the term "language policy" and identifies different levels of its implementation to immigrants. The paper examines immigrants’ influence on the modern linguistic situation, shows how the shift in immigration patterns causes the change in the linguistic situation in the country. Under growing multiculturalism and multilingualism Canada witnesses the formation of new bilingualism different from Anglo-French linguistic dualism.
