FUNCTIONING OF INTERTEXTUAL ELEMENTS IN THE CONTENMPORARY POLITICAL DISCOURSE OF GREAT BRITAIN

Abstract. The article discusses the basic functions of intertextual inclusions in the public speeches of the contemporary British political leaders: the function of emphasizing the speaker’s position by appeal to the authority, author’s citation or solidary opinion; the function of argument denying; informative, illustrative, decorative, euphemistic, referential, contact-forming and didactic function. The author notes the multifunctionality of intertextual inclusions.
