Abstract. The article examines modern orthoepic norm in the Korean language. The paper presents a review of the "Standard Pronunciation Rules" - orthoepic rules officially adopted in 1988 and provides a comparison with the actual verbal realization. The author aims to discover the causes of the considerable gap between the officially adopted orthoepic standard and modern colloquial Korean language.
