Abstract. The article is devoted to studying the pragmatic potential of the attributive hyphenated composites in the modern American printed mass-media pre-election discourse. The pragmatic potential of the attributive hyphenated composites is analyzed considering the ability of these units to transfer the informational and meaningful aspects, figurative, axiological and emotional messages which in its integrity forms the basis of the pragmatic persuasive influence on target audience. The pragmatic potential of an attributive hyphenated composite is considered as a technique to realize the pragmatic persuasive potential of the whole discourse.
