SPECIFICITY OF INFINITIVE USE IN THE CONTEMPORARY ENGLISH AND RUSSIAN LANGUAGES

Abstract. The article presents a comparative analysis of the peculiarities of the use of the infinitive in the contemporary English and Russian languages. There are six factors that determine the specificity of the functioning of this non-finite verb form of the verb in the languages under review: differences in the paradigms of forms, the presence of specific constructions with the infinitive in English, the ability of the infinitive to be used in certain specific for a particular language syntactic functions, the existence of specific idiomatic constructions with the infinitive in English , the ability of the infinitive to transfer the meaning of the future tense and different modal meanings in the context.
