Abstract. The article examines the social aspect of culture phenomenon and its intertextual character. The authors pay attention to the complexity of organization and multidimensionality of intertext connections, in which quotations are the code to numerous sources of cultural space. The function of quotation is in the fact that being a semiotic factor of a newly created text, it is directed at the depth of memory and included in a continuous dialogue of cultures.
