SPECIFICITY OF THE IMAGE OF A CHARACTER-SAINT IN I. S. SHMELYOV’ THE CREATIVE WORK (BY THE MATERIAL OF DUOLOGY "THE SUMMER OF THE LORD" AND "PILGRIMAGE")

Abstract. The article examines the specificity of character -saint in the creative work by I. S. Shmelyov. One of the characters of the duology "The Summer of the Lord" and "Pilgrimage" Gorkin is in the centre of the research interest. While analyzing it is proved that Gorkin’s image is referred to the hagiography and idyllic type of a saint. The author of the article focuses attention on the special role of the character, on the one hand, implementing a moral ideal of the writer, and on the other hand, - symbolizing Orthodox world outlook of the Russian people.
