Abstract. In the article the author demonstrates the validity of the assertion that the transference of the theme-rheme principle of information segmentation, the functioning of which at the level of sentence is the generally recognized linguistic fact, to the broader levels of text (such text blocks as supra-phrasal unity, or, for example, chapters) is well-grounded. It is proved that the segmentation mechanism is essentially the same.
