Abstract. In the article the author describes the monograph by Professor E. P. Ivanyan, which is the result of the deep research of default semantics as the default functional-semantic category, and shows the current state of development of default theory in Russian philology. It is determined that the significance of the monograph for the second decade of the XXI century is in the author’s development of the theory of euphemisms and default, as well as in the development of the ideas of P. A. Lekant’s scientific school of grammar.
