SEMANTIC PECULIARITIES OF IDIOMATIC EXPRESSIONS WITH ACHROMATIC COLOUR TERMS IN THE ENGLISH AND RUSSIAN LANGUAGES

Abstract. The article presents the results of analyzing idiomatic expressions with colour terms of the semantic oppositions "white" and "black" in the English and Russian languages. The findings are acquired by continuous sampling from explanatory dictionaries. The authors conclude on the preservation of the conventional meaning of the basic achromatic colours - idiomatic expression components.
