Abstract. This article discusses the peculiarities of using polysemantic words and homonyms as one of the most active methods of manipulative influence in Nizhny Novgorod political discourse of mass media. The analysis of text fragments confirms that the collision of the meanings of linguistic units in texts creates ambiguity and uncertainty, which are a basis of linguistic manipulation, and enables journalists to influence the assessment of described realities by the addressee of the message actively.
