Abstract. The article demonstrates the role of folklore traditions in the Nogai writer F. A. Abdulzhalilov’s story "The Father’s Son". At the core of the work is a heroic feat of a young man during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The paper gives a description of the artistic image, the genre of the work from the point of view of actuality and artistic fiction, traces the historicism of thinking and the continuity of folklore traditions in artistic conceptions created by the writer.
