Abstract. The author of the article attempts to examine deictic units in a subtitled filmic text and identify a direct role of deixis in this type of translation. As a result of the analysis of the material, the author comes to the conclusion that deixis in subtitling: 1) can serve as a mechanism of intersemiotic cohesion, providing the connectivity of filmic texts; 2) is an effective translation solution; 3) intensifies the process of reading the subtitles.
