Abstract. The article aims to examine the food and drink names of the Tatar language with a view to identify their fixation in the language. The work of the outstanding scientist of the XIX century K. Fuchs serves as a source for the research. According to the authors, the units of the lexico-thematic group "food" mentioned by the ethnographer are a precious possession of the nation, a storehouse of cultural and historical memory and a crucial indicator of ethnic uniqueness and originality. These words help to preserve the continuity and integrity of Tatar traditional culture.
