SOCIOLINGUISTIC APPROACH TO THE ISSUE OF VARIATION OF FRENCH IN BRUSSELS AND WALLONIA

Abstract. The article highlights the sociolinguistic aspect of the problem of the language variation of the French language. The necessity of a comprehensive and profound study of the peculiarities of the French language in Belgium (in particular, in Wallonia and Brussels) with the involvement of the topical language material determines the value of this work. In the southern and central part of Belgium - Wallonia and Brussels - the intention to diversify the cultural peculiarities and to preserve the national identity is expressed especially clearly, the issue of the ethnic and linguistic autonomy is sharpened. Public interest to the influence of the English language and culture also determines the relevance of the topic.
