FRENCH PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract. The article examines international phraseological units of French origin in the English language. Due to the specific historical conditions the influence of French language is visible in England in all the epochs up to now. The authors describe the immediate borrowings, full and partial calques, proverbs and sayings of French origin. The special attention is paid to the English expressions-calques from French of Latin origin. The paper provides phraseological units introduced by the French writers, poets, dramatists, philosophers.
