THE UNDERGROUND CLASSIC": RECEPTION OF J. BARBEY D'AUREVILLY’S CREATIVITY IN THE RUSSIAN LITERARY CRITICISM

Abstract. The article focuses on the perception of J. Barbey D'aurevilly’s creativity in Russia, in particular, it is examined in the chronological perspective when and for what reason the Russian literature and criticism referred to this writer’s creativity. The analysis conducted in this article covers the different stages of the Russian literary criticism: from critical essays of the poets of the Silver Age to modern research. This approach enables the author to create the most complete representation of the peculiarities of the reception of the works of this French writer of the XIX century by the domestic literary criticism, and also to raise the question of the utter relevance of the study of J. Barbey D'aurevilly’s creativity in Russia.
