Abstract. The article is devoted to the comparative analysis of peculiarities of the text in its traditional understanding and characteristics of the hypertext on the Internet. The interpretations of the notion "text" in structural, communicative, cognitive linguistics and psycholinguistics are considered. On the basis of the conducted research the author substantiates the difference between the semantic integrity (coherence) of the text in traditional linguistics and the semantic and structural peculiarities of the hypertext in corpus linguistics.
