ON THE SPECIFICITY OF ANALYSIS OF I. A. GONCHAROV`S NOVEL IN THE MONOGRAPH BY R. PEACE "OBLOMOV: A CRITICAL EXAMINATION OF GONCHAROV’S NOVEL"

Abstract. The article deals with the specificity of interpretation of I. A. Goncharov’s novel "Oblomov" by the British literary critic R. Peace in his monograph "Oblomov: A Critical Examination of Goncharov’s Novel". The authors analyze the specificity of R. Peace’s interpretation of the main characters of the work (Oblomov, Olga, Agafia) taking into account the author’s individual understanding of the novel, and pay special attention to the notions "the other" as one of considerable contextual elements. It is proved that the orientation toward the unambiguity of interpretation of basic characters is one of distinguishing features of the monograph. The consideration of this monograph by R. Peace allows understanding deeper the spheres of analysis of the novel and extending the range of questions within the framework of his research.
