Abstract. The article examines the intenseness with spiritual motives of the cycle "Sonnets from the Portuguese" by Elizabeth Barrett Browning; special focus is made on the presence of God’s image. The author of the article draws a conclusion about a significant role of this image, motivated both by cultural processes of time and specificity of personal worldview of the poetess. The ambiguous God’s perception as an independent personality and translator of lyrical heroine’s thoughts is conditioned by original artistic implementation of the cycle, which enriched it with new conceptual tendencies.
