THE SPECIFICITY OF FOLKLORE TEXTS DEVOTED TO THE RITE OF THE FIRST STEP

Abstract. The article deals with the rite devoted to the first step of a child in the traditional culture of the Adyghe. The author focuses on the motives of the rite conduction, its functions, the verbal component (songs, good wishes, and children’s play poem), and the sub-ethnic and local variants. The phenomenon is considered in the context of the traditional way of life and the scale of spiritual values of the Adyghe society in its evolution.
