Abstract. The article is devoted to the lexical peculiarities of words-names of the colors in the modern Chinese language. The symbolism of color has always played a big role in the culture of China, which has been reflected in the theatrics (Beijing Opera) and in the art of space arrangement (Feng Shui), but this phenomenon can be observed the most clearly in the language. In the language as a rapidly changing system the color symbolism is also changing quickly. In this paper on the basis of the analysis of the examples of the use of words-names of the colors the author tries to reveal the historical and cultural factors and the trend of development of the system of Chinese color naming.
