Abstract. The article examines the verbalization of the value dominants of the professional activity of two generations of modern Russian journalists. Analyzing journalists’ basic intentions phenomena from the semio-socio-psychological viewpoint allows identifying the canonical/optional value foundations of the journalistic profession. The author argues that the sphere of journalists’ value self-identification becomes a ground for confrontation between social obligation and the profession.
