Abstract. The article reveals the content of a competence-based model for training the Russian language teacher by the material of mastering the features of essays based on the original text. The author pays particular attention to the analysis of the theoretical foundations of the notions of competence, competency and practical tasks, which provide the overall competence-based approach in training the Russian language teachers at the higher education establishment.
