Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of the specificity of the work by B. Akunin "F. M.". The typological similarities of the contemporary detective with the novels by F. M. Dostoevsky are described. The peculiarities of the plot formation, the system of the characters, and the use of the genre canon by both writers are emphasized. The comparison of the pre-text and the secondary text in the aspect of orientation toward mass and elite art is conducted, and in this connection the esthetic significance of the work by B. Akunin is determined.
