Abstract. The article for the first time raises the problem of "multilayer" pre-revolutionary manuscripts of the Yakut epos olonkho. The author examines certain problems of methodology of textual description of the "multilayer" manuscripts by the example of the olonkho text "Nyurgun Bootur the Swift" by K. G. Orosin. The analysis identified such basic criteria as the description of external peculiarities of the manuscript (condition of sheets; postscripts, marks and paginations), description of internal peculiarities of the manuscript (corrections; characterizing the handwriting and studying the colour of ink, availability of the data on manuscript owners).
