RUSSIAN PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS WITH THE LEXEMES "SOUL/ SPIRIT - CONSCIENCE" AND THEIR ENGLISH EQUIVALENTS (BY THE MATERIAL OF THE ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS OF A. P. CHEKHOV’S PLAYS)

Abstract. The article is devoted to the lexico-semantic analysis of the English emotive lexemes (EL) which are the translation equivalents (TE) of the Russian emotive lexemes used in the five plays by A. P. Chekhov (five-six translations of each of the plays are under examination). To provide comparative analysis the researcher applies to the English translations of A. P. Chekhov’s plays made by both famous and anonymous translators. The author identifies the types of lexical variability of the English EL in the translated texts corresponding to one original source.
