THE PECULIARITIES OF THE AUTOFICTIONAL LETTER OF TH. BERNHARD: ON THE INTERPRETATION OF THE FINAL OF THE NOVELLA "THE CELLAR" (1976)

Abstract. In the article the new interpretation of the final of one of the novellas written by the classic of the Austrian literature Th. Bernhard by the material of his own life is presented. The author points out the rethinking of the literary topos theatrum mundi ("the world as a theater") in the autobiographical pentalogy of the writer and discovers the hidden intertextual relations of Bernhard’s text with the works of Hugo von Hofmannsthal. The performative nature of the Austrian author’s creativity allows seeing in the final of the novella the reference to H. von Hofmannsthal’s drama "Everyman" (1903/1911).
