GENDER FACTOR IN SPORTS COMMENTATORS’ SPEECHES IN THE USA AND RUSSIA

Abstract. The article analyzes the effect of gender factor in sports commentators’ speeches. The study was conducted on the basis of the material of comments (in Russian and English) on tennis matches by journalists in Russia and the United States. Paying particular attention to the analysis of lexis, grammatical structures, speech genres and strategies, the author makes an attempt to show that the gender factor can be taken into account within the framework of cognitive approach.
