THE FUNCTIONS OF SUBJECTIVE-MODAL MEANINGS QUALIFIERS IN M. A. SHOLOKHOV’S NOVEL "THE QUIET DON"

Abstract. The article deals with the qualifiers of subjective-modal meanings in terms of their functions in literary text. The paper studies the semantics and grammatical nature of subjective modality indicators, revealed in Mikhail Sholokhov’s novel "The Quiet Don", focuses on their role in the creation of literary text. The author comes to the conclusion that, besides the "language" task itself - the expression of the speaker’s attitude to the reported material - these means have a number of "artistic" functions, for example, the expression of the author’s and his characters’ attitude to characters and events, verbal characteristic of characters, the recreation of the national-historical colour and so on.
