Abstract. The article considers the proverbs and sayings in the Buryat folk tales. The peculiarities of the poetics of a fairytale genre, and the functions of the Buryat proverbs in the structure of fairytale texts are determined. The proverbs and sayings in the folklore works are not only poetic design of the speech of fairytale characters, but also serve as a means of their image characteristics.
