FROM LATIN TO THE ROMANCE: NORMA ALFONS? (ALPHONSE’S NORM) OF NATIONAL LANGUAGE IN MEDIEVAL SPAIN

Abstract. The paper examines some of the trends that took place in the language of medieval Spain, in particular - the transition from Latin to the Castilian romance in the royal correspondence. The language phenomena are considered by the example of business letters in the historical context of the reign of two kings of medieval Spain: Fernando III and Alphonse X. The author gives the review of some issues of language norm and standards, explains the notion of norma alfons? (alphonse’s norm).
