Abstract. The article examines the problem of the author’s worldview representation in poetical translation. Since the analysis of mental images allows developing a clear and objective conception of the author’s linguistic personality, the choice of a linguo-cognitive paradigm seems to be most appropriate to achieve the research objective. As an example of such a study the paper provides an analysis of the ballad "The Old Lady’s Lament for Her Youth" by Fran?ois Villon and several versions of its Russian translation. The provided analysis involves the classification of the metaphor cognitive translation. The basic images used by the poet are represented as metaphorical models with slot frame structure.
