Abstract. The article reveals a new view on the element of a landscape in "Letters and Works" by Mary Montagu. In her lyrical landscapes the category of nature is connected with feelings, sensations, ideas, and characters’ emotions. The landscape starts to be drawn for the illustration of an internal world and the characters’ state; it adds to the image of the situation and the writer herself. From the external detail the landscape turns into the psychological one. In such a lyrical landscape emotionality and expressivity are important, feeling becomes a defining beginning.
