THE ORIGIN OF LAD MAGAZINES IN RUSSIA

Abstract. Within the framework of the historical-typological and descriptive approaches the article examines the process of formation of men’s periodicals in Russia in the XVIII-XIX centuries. The author explores the poorly investigated editions, analyzes the social and cultural provisions for their formation and argues for the thesis that the fashion magazines, both exclusively men’s and mixed, became the basis for the origin and development of a domestic men’s magazine as a type of publication.
