Abstract. The article deals with the significant period in the development of the modern Maori culture within the framework of the study of the English-language literatures of the former British colonies. The representatives of the literature of this period, known as the Maori renaissance, have changed the idea about the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand, not only in the homeland but also all over the world. The author reviews the creativity of the Maori writers, and identifies the points of contact in the artistic method and the subjects of the plotline which make it possible to identify the distinctive features of the cultural phenomenon and its representation in the literature. The main attention is paid to the post-colonial basis in the works of the studied authors.
