Abstract. The article considers the problem related to the performance of the heroic epos of the past and the present. The narrator is the mediator between the people and the other spheres of the Universe. The presence of the heroes of an epic work in the situation of its performance involves the specificity of the time of the sacred text sounding. The "code" of heroic tales is not fully unraveled; our people have something to find in it, in this treasure of knowledge about language, culture, and philosophy of the Khakass people.
