POPULIST CRITICISM OF F. SOLOGUB’S WORKS (A. E. RED'KO’S ARTICLES)

Abstract. In the article the works of the critic-populist A. E. Red'ko devoted to the creativity of F. Sologub are analyzed in detail for the first time. The purpose of the research is to show what difficulties the critic of democratic orientation is confronted with in the interpretation of the works of the writer-modernist alien to him ideologically and aesthetically. Red'ko identified correctly the combination of factual accuracy and fiction in Sologub’s prose, but he saw not the originality of the artistic method in it but the writer’s inability to follow the principles of lifelikeness.
