SEMANTIC FEATURES OF THEMATIC GROUP MILITARY IN THE OLD ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract. The article considers the semantic features of the thematic group "military", which is a part of the lexical-semantic field "names of activities" in the Old English period. The author conducts the selection of lexical units and the analysis of the meanings of words related to the army. The idea is argued that the names of military men in ancient England present the specific hierarchy and classification. The study provides a systematic idea about the military forces in the Old English period. The obtained data can serve as an additional source of information about Britain in the V-XI centuries.
