ON PROBLEM OF INTENTIONALITY OF ASPECTUAL OPPOSITION IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract. The article reveals and analyzes the intentional potencies of aspectual opposition in the English language. A favorable context for possible actualization of intentionality property is determined by the material of the functioning of continuous and general forms. The author distinguishes the following cases of intentional implementation of aspectual opposition at the level of utterance: the distinguishing of communicative center of the utterance, the indication of a logical connection or cause-and-effect relationships of several components of the semantic content of the utterance, the actualization of a particular element of the expressed and perceived sense. The article touches upon the question of intentional implementation of aspectual opposition at the level of a literary text composition, in particular when changing storylines.
