ON THE PROBLEM OF MONOLOGICAL AND DIALOGICAL NATURE OF THE PERFORMATIVES

Abstract. The article examines monological and dialogical nature of the performatives by the example of the Roman sacral and secular (juridical) performatives. The author provides an analysis of the structure of the ancient Roman performative speech acts, identifies the basic types of illocutions typical for the Roman sacral and juridical communication. On the basis of the analysis of the linguistic material the paper shows how the ancient Romans understood, represented and used performative statements. To sum it up, the researcher describes how the texts of the juridical documents develop from the oral performative ritual practices.
