Abstract. The article analyzes the interaction of two worlds - child’s and adult’s, organic child’s involvement into the sphere of adults’ activity, which is caused by the traditional way of life, historical time, in which events take place (Great Patriotic War, post-war period). The author brings to light the place of a child-hero in the system of characters, the status and functions of this image in theme, space and time organization of stories, and also a valuable aspect of a child’s image in the structure of short prosaic form of V. I. Belov. The author relies on V. I. Belov’s concept of a "must" existence, documented by the writer in the book of essays on folk aesthetics "Lad" (Harmony).
