ON THE GENRE ISSUE OF THE WORK OF SHORT FICTION "THE GLASS COFFIN" BY A. S. BYATT

Abstract. The article deals with the genre belonging of the work of short fiction of Antonia Byatt "The Glass Coffin". The work contains both the features of fairy-tale and novella so that it cannot be interpreted unambiguously as any one of these genres. On the basis of the writer’s terminology the author of the research identifies the genre of "The Glass Coffin" as a fairy story, the consideration of the specificity of which reveals the mechanism of the synthesis of the genre models of novella and fairy tale
