Abstract. In the article the complex nature of ecphrasis basing on its fundamental semiotic nature is emphasized. The author determines the problem fields of ecphrasis and their specificity in accordance with the basic concepts of information theory: source = demiurge; channel = work of art and / or artifact; feedback = reception. The status of ecphrasis as a multilevel system of inter-semiotic transformations is grounded.
